Angel Woodcraft was founded by Paul Curtis over 30 years ago in 1985. Paul Curtis, a native of South Wales, grew up in a family of four children. He discovered his love and talent for wood carving when he was very young.
When he was sixteen, after learning of his interest in wood carving and design, a good friend Ceris Williams took him to visit a highly acclaimed master craftsman called Gwyndaf Breese at St. Fagans National Museum of History near Cardiff.
Gwyndaf taught Paul how to make a Welsh love spoon and also told him the history of the love spoon. When he was leaving the museum, Gwyndaf encouraged Paul to make a spoon by kindly giving him some pieces of various hardwoods. With a piece of the hardwood, Paul made his first Welsh Love Spoon and gave it to Ceris, that was in 1983.
Starting up Angel Woodcraft
Paul made many love spoons after this, and in 1985 his designs became so popular that he decided to start a small business. Angel Woodcraft was born. His work became sponsored by the Prince of Wales Trust and he has been making them for a living ever since. Now Angel Woodcraft hosts over 100 Welsh Love spoon designs and makes the perfect gifts for a range of occasions.
Paul Curtis of Angel Woodcraft has established a reputation throughout Wales as a master craftsman of hand-carved love spoons.
